Oasis Pound for Pound Competition 2010

Over three weeks in Feb the Oasis held its now annual pound for pound strongest person competition. Lots of personal bests were achieved. Here are the results.

Squat
Although squatting less than he did last year 170kg was enough to clinch the win for Paul Emmons. But with only a 10% lead over big dead lifter Adam Pryke would it be enough to help him seal the overall victory. Tony Richardson and Ryan Finney both lifting personal bests were still very much in the frame.

Name Lifted Weight % of bodyweight
1 Paul Emmons 170kg 87.6kg 194%
2 Adam Pryke 125kg 67.8kg 184%
3 Tony Richardson 160kg 92.4kg 173%
4 Ryan Finney 115kg 70.6kg 163%
5 Cheryl Griffiths 100kg 66kg 152%

Bench Press

Another event with Tony Richardson coming in with a massive lift of 145kg on his first lift of the day. Straight away this put pressure on the rest of the field especially Darren Walsh who outweighed Tony and knew if he was to beat him must lift more than he had done before. He had a valiant attempt at 150kg but it proved a little much on the day. Adam Williams and Paul Emmons went for a more gradual approach making use of all their lifts. Adam Williams reigned supreme with a lift of 130kg at a bodyweight of 77.4kg meant it was enough to topple Tony of the top spot.

Name Lifted Weight % of bodyweight
1 Adam Williams 130kg 77.44kg 168%
2 Tony Richardson 145kg 91.2kg 159%
3 Paul Emmons 130kg 87.4kg 149%
4 Adam Pryke 100kg 68.2kg 147%
5 Ryan Finney 90kg 70.2kg 128%

6 Zaiphan Morris 95kg 79kg 120%
7 Cheryl Griffiths 67.5kg 65kg 104%
8 Darren Walsh 93.6kg No Lift -

Dead lift
Everyone knew it would be all down to the dead lift. Paul Emmons had a slight lead followed by Tony then Adam. However if Adam lifted to his potential nobody would be able to come close to him!! Like on the bench press Tony came in with massive lifts of 225kg and 230kg in the opening rounds. Dark horse Ryan Finney pulled a huge lift of 182.5kg out of the bag in the first round leaving him in contention for the top spot. There was a glimmer of hope for everyone when Adam Pryke failed on his first attempt at 190kg. Could he possibly not get a lift in and leave the door open for one of the others. Paul Emmons pulled 190kg of the floor with apparently no problem what so ever. Although he couldn’t produce it again with a heavier weight. He needs to over come his mental demons then maybe 200kg will be a possibility. There it was, Tony thought he had won it, Paul knew he hadn’t, Ryan was just glad of the opportunity to compete against more experienced athletes. But it was Adam who came storming through to take the dead lift, lifting nearly three times his body weight.

Name Lifted Weight % of bodyweight
1 Adam Pryke 190kg 67.8kg 280%
2 Ryan Finney 182.5kg 70.2 260%
3 Tony Richardson 230kg 92kg 250%
4 Paul Emmons 190kg 87kg 218%
5 Cheryl Griffiths 120kg 66.4kg 181%

Overall Winner
It was always going to be close and it went down to the final event. Paul went it into the dead lift with a slight lead, Tony in second and Adam third. This was all about to change. With a new nick name Adam ‘the ant’ Pryke regains his title of the Strongest Pound for Pound at Oasis. Next year we are going to be spiking his protein shakes with sugar so he can gain some weight so the rest stand a chance. Cheryl Griffith again became the strongest female. Come on ladies is there anybody who is going to challenge her next year.

Well-done to all those you took part and supported the event.

Name Total Lifted % of bodyweight

2 Tony Richardson 535kg 582%
3 Paul Emmons 490kg 561%
4 Ryan Finney 387.5kg 551%
5 Cheryl Griffiths 287.5kg 437%
